X a novel by Ilyasah Shabazz

A novel based off of the childhood and early adulthood of Malcolm Little, better known as a Malcom X. The man before the activism, we get an inside look at what life was like for a black man in the late 1930s and early 1940s. So much a out this book was infuriating, because even though we've made progress in the last 70 years, there are stark examples that could still be seen today. The attitude towards those who are "other" is shameful, and it was heartbreaking to read about some of the things Malcolm and his family went through. Especially at the hands of people who were supposed to help them.

Definitely an interesting read, and made me miss Roxbury, MA something fierce.
